Every queen has a story. This one has a secret.
At first glance, she is the Queen. Confident, independent and unmistakably Western, she stands her ground with a six-shooter in her hand, surrounded by roses, boots and details inspired by the American West.
But look a little closer.
There’s an Ace hiding in her hand.
I created The Queen With an Ace Up Her Sleeve around the idea that strength isn’t always about showing everyone the cards you’re holding. Sometimes the strongest woman in the room is the one who knows exactly what she has and doesn’t feel the need to announce it.
She may be the Queen, but she has kept an Ace for herself.
It’s a piece about confidence, independence and knowing that no matter what hand life deals you, sometimes it helps to have one more card in your back pocket.
Because a smart queen never shows all her cards.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is not a print or mass-produced wall decoration. It is original textile artwork created with thread.
I begin with my original artwork and personally digitize the illustration for embroidery, translating the lines, details and character of the drawing into thousands of individual stitches.
For this piece, I chose natural cork because its texture and markings reminded me of worn leather, weathered saddles and old playing cards. The cork isn’t simply a background. Its natural texture becomes part of the artwork itself.
Because cork is a natural material, subtle variations in texture and markings are expected and help give each finished piece its own character.
From across the room, you see a piece of Western art. Step closer and you begin to see the individual threads, stitches, textures and layers that created it.
FRAMED AND FINISHED
The embroidered artwork is carefully mounted onto foam board and presented in a rustic barnwood-style frame selected to complement the warm, weathered character of the piece.
The artwork measures 16” x 20”. The finished frame measures approximately 23” high x 18.75” wide x 1.25” deep.
Quality metal hanging hardware is included for you to install in your preferred position on the back of the frame.
