THE QUEEN RIDES HER OWN HORSE
There is a story behind this piece, and it begins with a woman who was never meant to sit quietly on a throne.
I created The Queen Rides Her Own Horse around the idea that a woman can be both the queen and the wild card in her own story.
The Queen of Spades has always felt a little different from the other queens in the deck. Strong, independent and a little mysterious, she became the inspiration for my own interpretation of a Western queen. Instead of sitting on a throne, my queen belongs in the saddle.
She is confident without needing permission, feminine without being delicate, and perfectly comfortable taking the reins herself. The horse, Western roses, spades and vintage playing-card details come together to tell the story of a woman who chooses her own direction.
I created her for the woman who doesn’t need rescuing. The woman who knows strength and femininity can exist in the same breath. The woman who has been dealt a few unexpected hands and played them anyway.
Because sometimes being the queen isn’t about waiting for someone to hand you a crown.
Sometimes it’s about taking the reins and deciding where you’re going next.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is not a print or mass-produced wall decoration. It is original textile artwork created with thread.
I begin with my original artwork and personally digitize the illustration for embroidery, translating the lines, details and character of the drawing into thousands of individual stitches.
For this piece, I chose natural cork because its texture and markings reminded me of worn leather, weathered saddles and old playing cards. The cork isn’t simply a background. It becomes part of the artwork itself.
Because cork is a natural material, subtle variations in its texture and markings are expected. Those variations are part of what makes each finished piece unique.
From across the room, you see a piece of Western art. Step closer and you begin to see the individual threads, stitches, textures and layers that created it.
FRAMED AND FINISHED
The embroidered artwork is carefully mounted onto foam board and presented in a rustic barnwood-style frame selected to complement the warm, weathered character of the piece.
The artwork measures 16” x 20”. The finished frame measures approximately 23” high x 18.75” wide x 1.25” deep.
Hanging hardware is included with the artwork for you to install in your preferred position on the back of the frame.
